A family struggles to stay together as they reflect on their disillusioned lives at the foot of the Appalachian Mountains.
We are four filmmakers from the US, Turkey, Iran, and Colombia. We’ve spent two years writing, directing, and editing Departure under the careful mentorship of acclaimed filmmaker and Ohio Eminent Scholar in Film, Rajko Grlic. A film with four writers and directors was a ridiculous idea to most, but we’ve found a way to make our different perspectives work for us instead of against us. The four of us have bonded throughout this process because of our diverse backgrounds. Our vast experiences have enabled us to see the world through different perspectives. Departure has been the ideal vehicle through which we can explore how people view the world differently and ultimately how connected our lives are.
