Synopsis

Captain Khorshid is an adaptation of Ernest Hemingway’s novel “To Have and Have Not,” set in southern Iran. It tells the story of Captain Khorshid, a one-armed boat captain who struggles to make a living. He becomes involved in smuggling activities to support himself and his family, leading to a series of tense and dramatic events.

Director

Nasser Taghvai, born in 1941 in Abadan, Iran, is a prominent Iranian filmmaker and screenwriter known for his influential contributions to the Iranian New Wave. He gained critical acclaim with his 1970 film Tranquility in the Presence of Others, which is celebrated for its social realism and sharp critique of Iranian society. Taghvai’s work often focuses on the lives of ordinary people, exploring themes of tradition, modernity, and cultural identity, as seen in films like Captain Khorshid and The Cyclist. In addition to his work in cinema, Taghvai has also been active in television, literature, and theater, making him a versatile and enduring figure in Iranian arts.
