While the mother is terminally ill and in hospital, after long years of absence, the father returns to sort things out. He is anxious and hesitant, as he has to take his son and daughter. But what is their destination, if he has not built the castle of dreams drawn by the mother for their children? Castle of Dreams is a psychological drama about the meaning of fatherhood and the responsibility it entails.
Born in Tehran in 1967, Reza Mirkarimi is a graduate of Graphic Arts from the University of Fine Arts in Tehran. He began his career in cinema as a director, writer and producer in 1987 with a short film and two TV series. Mirkarimi received seven Golden Simorgh awards at the Fajr Film Festival. Three of his movies were selected as Iran’s submission for the Oscars for Best Foreign Language Film: So Close, So Far (2005), A Cube of Sugar (2011), and Today (2014). He was the managing director of Khaneh Cinema (Iranian Alliance of Motion Picture Guilds) for two years.
