Synopsis

Director

Mohammad Reza Aslani, born in 1943 in Tehran, is an esteemed Iranian filmmaker, screenwriter, and poet known for his avant-garde approach to cinema. He is best recognized for his 1976 film Chess of the Wind, a visually striking and symbolically rich work that was banned shortly after its release and remained largely unseen for decades until its recent rediscovery and restoration. Aslani’s work often explores themes of power, corruption, and the passage of time, blending traditional Persian aesthetics with modernist techniques. In addition to his filmmaking, Aslani has contributed significantly to Persian literature and art criticism, further solidifying his place as a key figure in Iranian cultural history.
